Coping as a Writer

One thing I struggle with most as a writer is how to cope with having a real job. Now I know many of you just yelled at the scream in protest to my referring to writing as something that is nit a real job. Until my writing is brining in money enough that I don't have to work elsewhere, it is not a real job for me. At this point is is more of a hobby. My problem is that I want it to be more of a real job for me. I want to be able to spend the time on it to accomplish my goals with it. The problem is I am not one of those that can afford to go without another form of income. This is frustrating for me especially during times when my other work is not as rewarding as it once was and I'm finding it more and more difficult to get past the bureaucracy of it. I'm just curious how others manage, especially teachers. Are you able to write during the school year?
